What is Jesmonite?
Eco-Friendly Compound
Jesmonite is made from a combination of gypsum (a mineral created from sedimentary rock) and water-based acrylic resin. It was originally designed to be used in the construction industry, but in more recent years has become a popular medium for artists and sustainable creators.
Jesmonite is considered to be a sustainable material, due to the fact that it is created primarily from gypsum, and has an extremely low-energy manufacturing process, as it will set at room temperature.
The Making Process
Jesmonite is cast much in the same way you'd cast concrete. The material arrives in two parts, as a powder and a liquid. The liquid is coloured, and then combined with the powder to create a thick liquid. This is then cast in a mould, and left to set.
Here at Becks Studio, we use an acrylic sealant on most of our products, to create a matte, water-resistant finish. We also add cork to the bottom of the majority of our products, designed to protect your surfaces from scratches.
- REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE -
Here at Becks Studio we try to reduce our waste as much as possible. That's why your parcels will include repurposed packing materials taken from the deliveries that bring our materials and products to the studio door. Plus, you can dissolve the packing peanuts in water if you have no further use for them!
